This has become a major problem for us. Specifiers just don't seem to
uinderstand that Sky+ should be catered for. It isn't necessary to fit
the extra polarity switches for the second feed to every dwelling, but
it is essential to put the second downlead in. Here's a conversation I
had on Monday:
"Excuse me, are you the bloke who installed the TV system?"
"I am indeed."
"Well my Sky+ doesn't work."
"No, I'm sorry, the system on this development doesn't support Sky+"
"It does actually, because there are two sockets on the wallplate
marked SAT1 and SAT2."
"Yes, but the second one isn't connected to anything. There isn't a
cable between that socket and the head-end."
"What! Why the hell not? What are you going to do about it?"
"I'm sorry, but there's nothing I can do."
"Why didn't you put the bloody cable cable in?"
"The developer told me not to."
"Why the *&%£$ was that?"
"I suppose cost must have been a factor. Look, I think you should
complain to the developer, not to me."
"Don't you worry pal, I'll be complaining alright."
The cost of putting the second cable in is about £10 per dwelling.
We're talking here about flats costing £300k, with every modern
convenience. Except Sky+. Were the cable to be put in we could add the
extra polarity switch quite easily on demand.
Yours in total exasperation,
Bill
