The almost universal, at least until the EU got involved, standard was
red for poitive and black for negative (or green). The latest EU regs,
should you wish to follow them, for DC equipment are brown for +ve and
blue for -ve.

Probably not a real problem unless you intend to sell something
commercially ;0).
Most important things:
1) Dont use the same colour *everywhere*.
2) Be consistent. If you are going to use a colour for a part of a
circuit use that colour for the *whole* run. Dont
solder/splice/twist/join/screw together different coloured scraps to
make the distance.
These both make it much easier for you, or more importantly someone
else who doesent know what you did, fault find the circuitry / wiring.
