OK, but I wonder how good they could have sounded. Are we not being fed
crap and thus we have little to compare it with?
Brian

Well you can (and I have) compared often for the same piece.

CD (excellent)
Analogue terrestial with Nicam (very good)
FM radio with stereo (very good)
Digital terrestial (good)
Streamed MP3 (good - depends on rate and line
bandwidth)
Vinyle record (fair)
Analogue satellite with panda (passable)
D2-MAC (reasonable)
Digital satellite (usually pretty good, but
can depend on bit rate)
Over ISDN (poor - for music)

I haven't bothered with DAB because the reports have been so bad.

As a matter of interest, these days are there any radio stations in any
format which have not been overcompressed, frequency tweaked, lossy
compressed digitally etc, somewhere along their line, for that matter
I'm beginning to think the latter is being used on some CD and DVD audio
as well of late. What ever happened to sending what you get from them
tere microphones?

Brian

The ones on Satellite sound OK.
