For cases like these I tend to take a photo of the remote, so that I can
help the person via phone finding the right button. I remember once when
my
parents had accidentally used the "sat" button used on FTA receivers to
switch between different satellites. It took me ages to identify what was
wrong via phone conversation.

I was in a hotel once where they had one of those remotes that could switch
into controlling a video (using the normal TV buttons).

It took me ages to work out why it wasn't controlling the TV
