I'm also reminded of a friend who did it the pc way but never watched the
file before burning, and ended up with a great recording with the sound out
of sink all the way through. I hsad to lagh as I told him I never bothered
about such details these days...grin...

I read the earlier thread about copying programs from a Humax with
great interest as I have a program that I want to save.
What are the advantages/disadvantages of copying direct to a DVD
writer with a SCART lead, instead of using the programs discussed?
It seems much simpler, but is the quality not as good?
Thanks for any advice.
Copying direct to a DVD writer involves a slight loss of
quality. The other disadvantages are:
1. It is slower than using the USB connection to a PC.
2. You cannot watch anything else using the Humax while you are
copying.
3. The best picture quality is obtained using the RGB output
from the Humax. That is available only on the "TV SCART" socket.
Using that socket what is copied to the DVD is everything that
the Humax displays on the TV screen. This will include a brief
"Start recording by reservation..." message if a timed recording
starts while you are doing the copying.
I don't know whether those messages are included in the output
via the other Scart socket, the one labelled VCR SCART.
