What about the Netgem with its blind friendly interface etc, will this fall
over eventually? I have noticed that sometimes sky 3 resets the box for no
apparent reason.

Can anyone tell me what the early Sagem boxes are based on? I ask
because my elderly neighbour has (yet another) old TV that he wants to
add Freeview too. He already has two Sagem boxes so an old ITD60 would

learn.
However, having heard about the recent Setpal problems, will the same
fate befall his Sagems?
Thanks,

This is a bit of an old post but anyway..
Its nothing to do with the chipset its the software stack that matters and
whether the original design company is supporting it or not.
There are only a few generic stacks around and most producs will have a
customised versions and thus unique to each series/brand.
Generally all stacks have bugs that might not appear until a broadcaster
starts using part of the DVB standard in a particular way, and quite often
problems only occur at a one or a few transmitters.
Novapal/Setpal are now out of business (AFAIK) and so no more downloads or
support. The Brands such as Daewoo/Triax/something-gear do not have the
keys nor the source code and licenced the design and so it is lost
forever, perhaps.
Thanks to the over complicated way in which the DVB standard was written
and has a huge number of features that are never likely to be used, it is
almost impossible to test fully (this is what happens when broadcasters
have free reign over standards). Hence you should buy a reputable brand
that has been around for a while and when the STB stops working due to a
software bug you should take it back to the shop that sold you it. You
have 6 years to claim for faults that 'are inherant in the design at the
time of purchase', however they can take into account the amount of use
you have had from it and will probably want the receipt that has
conviently faded. They can also offer a repair in the form of an OAD or
local software upgrade if its a software issue and a fix is available.
