Is such a thing available? I'm after a Freeview tuner which can turn
itself on (or at least out of standby) and off again (back into
standby). In other words I want to be able to select a program and
then leave it so it turns on a TV (or whatever) via SCART, play the
program and then turns off again.
I.e. basically a PVR but without the ability to record.
I haven't got a clue if it's available or not - but go on, you've really got
me intrigued now :o)
You want a Freeview tuner to turn a telly on, play the program and turn
itself off again - presumably playing the programme to an empty room, or
else you'd be there to do it yourself - WHY?????? :o)
Many (most?) Freeview tuners have timer functions which will do
what is required. All that's needed then is a TV, or whatever,
that will wake up when it gets the necessary signal on the SCART
input and go back to standby when the signal goes away.
One of the VCRs in my house will start recording when the
Freeview tuner plugged into it wakes up and will stop recording
when the tuner goes back to sleep at the end of the program that
the timer is set for.
The Freeview box is a Wharfedale DV832B which is connected to a
Philips VR55 VCR.
All of the Freeview boxes I own have timer functions: Pace,
Bush, Wharfedale and Goodmans. They have 5 timers, each which
controls one on/off sequence, except for the obsolete Pace which
has 12.
want. :-)
Just to elucidate I have a DVD/Hard disk box which will start
recording when a signal appears on its SCART input so, with an
appropriate STB I have a PVR.
