The roof is constructed from concrete roof tiles and we are in the middle of a housing estate on reasonably flat ground. Hence not the best reception conditions for loft mounting. If I was using the aerial for the main TV then I would definitely have it mounted externally. However given that I can do all the work myself if its loft mounted, the aerial is only used for the kids TV's and I'm only having a problem with mux 2, I'm reluctant to ditch the DAT75 and go for an externally mounted aerial.

All this depends very much on how absorptive the roof material is in all weathers and whether the direction it has to point means its occluded by masonry or nearby roofs.

Reading through the details on Wideband vs Group A aerials in
http://www.aerialsandtv.com/atvstockaerialtests.html (see Bill's earlier
post "Justin's aerial info"). I'm now wondering if I should swap my DAT 75
loft mounted aerial for a high gain Group A aerial.
I currently have a DAT 75 in the loft with Televes built in mast amp going
to a Labgear Home Distribution unit (HDU681), which feeds the signals to
several TV's around the house. The DAT 75 is pointing to Crystal Palace 32
miles away. The only problem I seem to have with this setup is that none of
the TV's will pickup MUX 2 ( ITV 1) on Freeview. Would a high gain group A
aerial (mounted in the same loft location), give me enough of a signal boost
to enable the reception of MUX 2 ? If so which aerial would you reccomend ?
I realise that mounting the DAT75 externally would increase the signal,
however this setup is not used for our main TV (Virginmedia), and I don't
really fancy a big yellow DAT75 waving about in the wind when its not being
used for the main TV.

Surely you would not need as big an aerial if it was mounted outside.
Would the benefits of having the aerial outside not be greater than
the benefits of having a larger aerial?
