Okay, thanks. Which ADSL modem are you using? Also, is multicast or
IGMP mentioned in the Properties for your ADSL modem?

I an viewing with a home LAN, based around Windows Small Business
Server 2003, SP2,with a Zyxel 652 router providing ADSL connection to
whole network.

Can find no mention of IGMP or Multicast in config pages on router
from quick
look at config tonight.

Okay.

Have to wonder how this will ever work with joe-public!

Maybe in future ADSL modems will have multicast enabled by default.

Have you ever tried talking a computer-illiterate client through
doing a telnet session
to their router to change settings?

If multicast requires changes to router configs, then its dead before
it's properly
running...

Nah. It'll be slow to catch on because so few ISPs support it at the moment,
but I think over time it'll become popular. It promises to become the
platform that provides radio at the highest audio quality out of all the
platforms that carry radio - including FM, and obviously far better than
DAB. So people will want to use it.
