Hi,
Got back from holiday in Hayle, Cornwall today. We stayed at a Haven
site in one of their caravans. We took a freeview box with us to see
if it would work with the shoddy aerial stuck on the side of the
caravan. Worked perfectly, so must be pretty good signals down there
(from Redruth). I was also thinking that as DSO is due quite soon in
the west country, I wonder what they will do with holiday sites like
this. It would cost quite a bit to change all the tellys in the
caravans/chalets or add Freeview boxes. It might actually be cheaper
to install some kind of distribution cable system where a load of DTT
boxes are tucked away somewhere and an RF system set up to send out,
say, 10 Freeview channels to each old telly in each accomodation. Be
interesting to see what will happen.

A lot of these places are actually privately owned and let out via a company
like Haven. The onus on kitting out the accommodation rests with the owner.
A few years back we stayed in a "cottage" (portacabin!) in Gunnislake
(Devon/Cornwall borders) which was let by Hoseasons. Most had roof top
aerials, ours had a Silver Sensor sat on top of the TV. The analogue picture
was very ghosty, however our Freeview box gave perfect results on all
channels. As people get used to another box sat under their TV's at home, so
seeing one in their holiday accommodation will become normal.
