Sorry, this is a very paranoid question brought on by a comment made by someone.
Is it possible for authorities, government, ( them, they , other people via the internet or some other public data base) to know who had a free to air satellite and also be able to track exactly what channels they are viewing ( and when) on a free to air satellite?
I don't think so. It's possible the box has a memory of what channels you've watched recently, but I don't see how it could be detected remotely.
Of course, if "they" put a "detector van" outside the house they'll be able to see everything on your TV and (CRT) computer screens anyway.
Sounds a bit big brother ish but give these are the days of sat nav pin and pin pointing of cars on the road via mobile phones and tracking of consumer buying habits in supermarkets via loyalty cards etc. I am just wondering?
The same goes for the internet. Is it possible for the viewing life of a person just using the internet on a home computer to be tracked this way?
Yes. Your ISP will be logging what you do, in case you do something very naughty.
A lot of websites will be tracking where you came to them from, and your progress through their site, and check Google's web history features if you are paranoid.
