I think "nospam" did originally state that would be the case for large parts of europe, for large parts of the year, how many days of the year is your central heating on?

and even then, the cost in both economic and carbon footprint terms is almost certainly higher than providing the heating through other means.

Devices should do what they need to do as efficiently as possible. You can't make a virtue out of an unwanted side-effect.
