Hi,

My bruv's Thompson DTT box is acting strange.

Updating EPG?

I've got a Grundig GDT2000 which is doing something similar.

About two months ago, one morning I found that it had switched itself
off (standby) overnight. On switching on, there was a message to say
that the programme guide was being updated, and to make sure to leave it
in standby when not in use.

This continued for until about two weeks ago. Now, most days, it is
still on in the morning. However, on the odd occasion, it has switched
itself off during 'normal' viewing hours, but then switched itself on
again after about 20 seconds, again with a message about programme guide
upgrading.

I must admit, I'm getting a bit fed up with this. It's just as well I
haven't wanted to do any timed recordings through it. By the way, the
programme guide seems more-or-less the same as before. The only possible
difference is that, when first selected, a lot more programmes initially
have 'no information', but then the info appears a few seconds later.

Just how long does it take to do an upgrade? I've done things like full
reset, firmware upgrade, full new channel scan etc, but the 'feature'
still (occasionally) persists. I still never know when the STB is going
to spontaneously switch off.

Now, this sounds like a distinct possibility. I wonder if it is
possible to disable the automatic upgrade?

There doesn't seem to be a 'disable' option.

I'm glad this thread has started. I have let a friend have my old
DTI1000 on semi-permanent loan and he has been getting this message on
startup about leaving it in standby overnight (which he has been
doing) but it never seems to get the Teletext Extra EPG. I think there
is a setting somewhere to revert back to the standard EPG but it
seemed to be greyed out when I had a look a couple of weeks ago.

There is a thread on the Digital Spy forums about this, currently
running to 11 pages :-(

Thanks for that. In this forum, the latest System Version referred to is 4.8 (which mine is). However, they still seem to be playing around with things, so it's probably best to wait until they are finished.

Ian.
