It's very important for pre-school kids to know what they're watching ;-).
On a slightly more serious note though, my children (5/7) watch a mix of
CBeebies and CBBC. There are some programs we don't let them watch on CBBC
but there are also a number of programs "on the edge" between CBeebies and
CBBC age groups.
It can be useful to have the CBeebies/CBBC logo so we can check they
haven't
"surfed over" when our back was turned. Of course I don't see any
reason to
have logos on regular channels but then perhaps spotting they've moved from
BBC1 to "advertville" (Ch5) might be useful in future.
Damn, I'm providing a justification for DoGS - at least it's nothing to do
with competition! This also doesn't mean the logo has to be animated and
cover half the screen ;-).
Surely 'Parental Locks' can be used to stop such 'surfing' ? Anyway, it
seems the cowboys (branding dept.) at the BBC are simply softening up
the next generation (You know, the ones described so aptly by PT Barnum)
into accepting DOGs as being a normal part of the 'TV Experience'.
Since there are some 650,000 such 'happy minutes' per year for the UK
alone, there would seem to be a plentiful supply of such 'fools' for the
cowboys and their ilk to exploit. PT Barnum had the situation nicely
summed up in that famous phrase of his.
