Most set top boxes have problem with firmware updates and bugs ! I do not
belive that buying cheap or expensive goods enters into the equation. As
other people have posted this sony machine is a good purchase so let not
bitch about his choice of purchase and help the OP with contructive
coments.
Let him go back to the store and take a working unit untill they fix it.
and bugs"
Do you take you PC back to PC world every time mr gates messes it up with
patches or it just crashes ?
Get real mate
The PC is a general purpose computer, designed to be loaded with software
and operated by the owner. Lots of documentation and standards are
published about it and are freely available. Software updates are
available.
Sony STBs are entirely different. They use proprietary designs, without
freely available documentation. There is no alternative software or updates
available for users to install. There is no way of modifying the software
installed on the box.
In short, it's supposed to work, and if it doesn't it's not fit for purpose.
