That could be resolved easily enough. IIRC some of the earler statements
related to saying the image was converted via a DAC and then an ADC. That
would indicate an analogue stage. Either this is what people have in mind,
or not.

I've glanced through the thread again and it seems that I was the only
person to mention DACs and ADCs. Given the nature of the discussion, I
guess that I thought that the people posting in the thread would know
the terms, but I was forgetting where I was. As an electronic engineer,
*I* know how trivial it is to switch serial bitstreams around to bypass
quality-reducing components as appropriate, but of course that's
specialised knowledge.
