Just a note that 1440 x 900 is only 16:10 if the pixels are square (and
I'm not saying that they're not!). Pixels are not always square and
weren't neccessarily in the past. I used to use a graphics card where
the pixels were ratio 2:3 - made drawing a circle interesting as you had
to draw a 3:2 elipse to compensate.

True, but these were definitely square.

guess I'll have to wait until they come in the shop tomorrow and hope they
have one on display

if not I won't be buying one

thing is, finding a similar size widescreen CRT is becoming more and more
difficult, or at least for me it is
this place only sell LCD or portable CRT (14") and Comet (my nearest
retailer) is the same

Absolutely. I have a fantastic Toshiba 26" WS CRT but there was nothing
smaller with any kind of quality. I was looking for a 20" LCD, but the ones
I liked were all monitors as well, and had niggles like the one I described,
so
went for a 23" Samsung (LE23T51B). Best thing about the Samsung is the
backlight can be turned down very low so if you're watching in a darkened
room it doesn't dominate the image. Downside is the holes for the VESA200
mounting machine screws aren't M4 like in the VESA specification. Samsung's
solution was to send me a set of four self-tapping M5 screws!
