Re: Best DTT USB stick questions

Sounds like you might need a 6 GHz processor and 3 GB of RAM in order to
get the software for one of these USB sticks to run at a reasonable
speed, and even then it might not work.

Are the PCI cards any faster ?

Will they work on a 3.2GHz machine with 1 GB of RAM without producing
jerky pictures ?

Actually despite my previous answer some time ago there may be some truth
in that,
I was recording full screen and the picture became slow and jumpy, I
looked at
the CPU and it was 100%
However if I record without watching the CPU drops to about 35%..
One thing I found was the CPU usage depended on the size of the picture,
this may or may not
surprise you. I have onboard graphics,
What I do fond odd is that in a typical set top box the CPU is of the
power
of the computer I bought 8 years ago, that is pentium 2 class i believe,
actually
a Cyrix MII 300, my current CPU/machine shoudl be 20-30 times faster,
difficult to compare because no one benchmarks machines of such differing
specs.

So what is going on here, why is a box with 5% the power of my machine
outperforming
my set-top box. And lets not forget that the Freecom stick must also have
a CPU in it?

I am figuring it is badly written software which is the problem.

Actually I had the hardware acceleration turned off (to cure a minor
problem)
with full HW acceleration the proxessor is only about 30%
