Hi All,
A while ago I was given a Thompson FV STB and stuck it on the feeder
from the unused (currently using NTL analogue) aerial in the loft
(that had been working fine till they stuck Canary Warf between me and
Crystal Pal 18 miles away). Everything was fine according to the DTV
picture and the status readout (9 strength & 10 quality) but the same
signal fed into a PC DTV card resulted on picture hesitation and sound
loss (no 'breakup' us such).
I have emailed Pinnacle a couple of times asking if the PC spec could
be the cause (right on the 'minimum' limits) but as yet the automated
replies have yealded nothing ("Please run AV / Spyware yada yada ..).
So, as an experiment and step towards a bit of future proofing I
bought a Televes (1126) 'Infinito' wide band aerial and a 100m roll
of Webro WF100 and joined the two together today.
With the full 100m still on the roll and holding the aerial in my hand
downstaris next to the STB resulted in a ~ 4/10 signal strength and
~7/10 quality and a pretty good (broken now_and_again) picture?
I then stood the aerial in the bedroom (6' below the old one in the
loft) and the results went up to 6 / 8
So, the previous aerial yealded 9 and 10 I was suprised when we tested
the new aerial into the PC DTV card the picture reliability seemed
much improved (especially though 100m of feeder!) so I'm wondering if
it was noise rather than signal that was causing the breakup (sorry if
I'm slow to catch on here <g>) ?
All the best ..

The feeder is ALL important. It must be matched correctly at the aerial and
at the receiver to avoid standing waves and reflections which will result in
signal being re-radiated instead of passing to the receiver.
