I appreciate that you're not saying that it is a general rule that if
you can't receive Five analogue then you won't be able to receive
Freeview. However, there is an urban myth to this effect, so it is
worth saying explicitly that there is *no general correlation* between
availability of Five analogue and Freeview. It all depends on local
circumstances.

Are you sure about this? I understood that C5 was generally broadcast
from main transmitters (ie, not relays). I also understood that
digital TV was generally broadcast from main transmitters (ie, not
relays). Sounds like a correlation to me

No, there is *no* correlation. There are many main transmitters that
carry DTT, but C5 analogue is absent from.

(Dover, Heathfield, Midhurst, Rowridge, BlueBell Hill, Stockland Hill,
Beacon Hill, Wenvoe, Carmel, to name some)

Also at some transmitters where C5 analogue is present, DTT is not
transmitted omni-directionally, or at all.

I can't remember much about statistics to argue. A correlation is not
a one to one correspondence though. I would expect the proportion of
main transmitters with C5 is rather higher than the proportion of
relays with C5; and likewise the proportion of main transmitters with
digital is higher than the proportion of relays with digital. It
sounds to me that there will be a correlation there but maybe someone
who remembers statistics could comment.
