Re: Humax 9200T fault

These are all helpful answers - thanks very much. So if I reformat the
disk all will be well you think (until the next time)? I can live with
that, I suppose, if it's a one-off, but I don't want it happening
regularly. It would be interesting to find out how common this fault
is, and whether there is any way (updated OS perhaps?) of stopping it
from happening again.

I work with computer systems for a living, and many hard disk errors are
caused by the drives overhaeting due to poor ventilation, whilst the cause
of other errors is often power related. A slight blip in the power supply
at the wrong moment can cause problems, and this might be what happened to
yours.

I've only had my Humax just over a month having experienced losing all my
recordings on a Digifusion FVRT200 and being told 'ah that's a software
fault, you'll have to do a complete system reset, and no, your recordings
are lost'. It went back like all the others before it as I'd paid for
something reliable. So far, I haven't had the same problem as you, but I do
back up anything I want to keep directly to PC or to DVD-R via SCART.

If reliable power is a problem for you, you could try a UPS, which would
keep your system alive for a short time, and give you anti surge protection.
The amount of time that it would remain switched on is variable and would
depend on the make, model and default settings inside the UPS. UPS' are
normally controlled by a connected PC.

I would think that your hard drive is physically OK and it's just got it's
file system slightly out of whack. Reformatting should sort it out, but
your programmes will be lost. I'd also review where the box is physically
located and ensure as far as possible that it isn't enclosed in a tight
space with other devices that generate heat - plenty of ventilation is
generally good.
