Does anyone know how to make the Sony freeview box always use 16:9 letterbox rather than messing about with this silly 14:9 nonsense? I'm sure someone posted instructions to access the service menu either here or on Digital Spy quite recently but I can't seem to find it now (not that there's necessarily anything helpful in the service menu...)

Mine always gives the correct aspect ratio on my widescreen set. Which
will be 16:9 or 4:3. 14:9 is the compromise on analogue transmissions, not
digital.

Yes, but if the VTX-D800 is set to feed a 4:3 set, it will display 16:9 programming in either 14:9 or 16:9 letterbox, as per how it is instructed to by the broadcaster via AFDs. I think the OP wishes to over-ride 'broadcaster control' and display all 16:9 programming in 16:9 letterbox ?
