Makes me wonder that.. just how bad some peoples analogue reception actually is that they say digital looks better. Is it the reception side moist likely.. or do some transmitters leave something to be desired?......
Tony
I know this is subjective but it seems to me there is a slight difference in video quality between analogue and digital pictures.
I receive from Heathfield TX about 11 km south of here - can see the aerial across the valley from my bedroom window. On my Sony IDTV I can switch quickly back and forth between BBC1 analogue and digital. We do not suffer from transmission problems on either channel.
On a studio programme the analogue picture is more contrasty than the digital one: a studio armchair appears almost totally black on analogue but on digital I can see shades of grey in the fabric. The changes of tone on digital appear more subtle than the other channel.
There is also a marked change in sound level between the two channels showing the same programme.
The explanation may well lie in an inaccurate compromise in the TV setup and, of course, which is better is a matter of opinion. We only use analogue to view ceefax - the digital version is quite hopeless.
