There was a thread in uk.rec.video.digital a few months back when Aldi last
sold these. I bought one and am very impressed with it. You must have USB 2
for it to work, and it does it's job well. Captures S-video or composite and
l/r audio. It appears to Windows as a standard "imaging device", so can be
used as a capture device in editing programmes (like Premiere), or as an
input source for Windows Media Encoder, Windows Movie Maker, you can even
use it in place of a webcam in Windows/MSN messenger.
It can capture at 720x576 25fps to either MPG2 or AVI depending on software.
Comes with "Power Producer" DVD authoring/burning/editing software, which is
pretty good at what it does, and some other software (which didn't last long
on my hard drive) that included a PVR type app. As "bland" mentioned, it
has no qualms about Macrovision :)
Highly recommended.
