Possibly, but why should we be concerned about the extinction of
something nobody wants? A couple of generations ago when I was a child,
some were lamenting the demise of the old-fashioned "little corner shop"
in the face of the newest shopping system from America - the
self-service supermarket. Once shoppers had experienced the convenience
of not having to queue up to ask the brown-coated Ronnie Barker type
shopkeeper for every item individually, and wait while some items were
weighed out on the old brass scales, they stopped going to these places
and went to the supermarkets instead. History marches on, and although
you might feel nostalgic about the disappearance of some things, if
there aren't enough people who want them and are willing to pay for
them, thay can't afford to stay. If the retail shops want customers,
they will have to offer what customers want. That's the way it is.
