OK. I will experiment with this.

With the OS/filing system I use the system stores the file 'type'
separately to the name. So visible 'extensions' on the name are optional.
When I download the browser will try and follow either what the sending
machine indicates, or read the extension. (Usual MIME rules, etc.) However
I can set a file called "fred.exe" to actually be typed as ps without
changing its name. :-)
FWIW I use Ghostscript as well as some other programmes for handing and
processing ps and pdf files.

<later> OK, I've just had a quick try. If I go to wolfbane.com and use
the 'finder' then it returns an HTML file of the results (despite having
a name with the extension 'exe'! i.e. I don't get ps, I get html sent
to browser and displayed as such. I've checked by saving the file and
reading the contents with a plain-text editor. Do others get ps? If so,
this all sounds a bit like the server-side of things is set up a little
oddly... The results seem spot-on in my case, though, so it seems to do
an excellent job.
Perhaps the people who maintain the wolfbane site should have a look at
sorting out how the files are named/typed/served so as to avoid
confusions like this.
Is there a similar finder for DAB? 8-]
Thanks,
Jim
