I can't speak for the Humax, but for the Topfield the answer is 'yes'.
It has no fan, so the only source of noise in normal operation is the
hard disk. The disk fitted in current models is the Samsung Spinpoint,
which is extremely quiet. The only time it comes anywhere near being
audible is when it is working hard at, for example, recording two
things at once and playing back a third; then there can be a clicking
noise from the heads. Even this is reducible to almost zero by running
a TAP to set the audio management of the disk.
