How is stating that content providers are (set to) back one or the
other formats, but not both, and that if you want *their* content you
will have to buy into that format - which might mean that you end up
buying into both - an invalid statement? It would only need one major
content provider to do so, after all.

What will be more important will be the price point, if it's too high
people might well not buy into either, let alone just one of them...
