I have over 1000 radio shows recorded with DigiTV card as mp2s, I batch
convert them to mp3, its not a problem if you use something like
Razorlame to automate the process (I actually trigger the conversion
with a little Python script).
(A half hour show only takes about a minute to reencode.)

Agreed but for in car/personal stereo use I don't think you'ld notice.

I don't think it's quite that simple, the reason I converted my files
(keeping the same bitrate as broadcast) is that the .mp2 versions, even
renamed as mp3, wouldn't play on my Sony Personal CD/mp3 player or
Archos hardisc player, haven't tested the (Sony) car mp3 player with
these.

Maybe the Tivo creates an mp2 which is closer to an mp3 than the DigiTV
card does !
