OT: Directional AM (MW/LW) antenna?

As part of my Hi-Fi quest, I'm looking at tuners and find that they seem to
come with dinky little AM coil antenna. Now experience tells me that MW/LW
tuners notoriously poor at getting a good, clear signal so I'm wondering
what can be done to improve things.
I know that all the MW radio I will ever listen to comes from Crystal Palace
so are there such things are very directional MW antenna that can be used to
get just CP and ignore "Radio Elsewhere...". And does such a thing exist
for LW (pointed towards Droitwich I suppose).
Clearly I'm not looking for something huge and my initial investigations on
Google haven't come up with anything (perhaps I searched for the wrong
phrase) but anyone here come across, or played, with such an idea?
Paul DS.
