Freeview & Top Up TV Set Top Boxes

My parents and I are currently on NTL, but we all agree that it costs too much.
We also agree that Freeview is the way to go.
The only channels I'd miss (from NTL analogue) would be Paramount Comedy, UK Documentry,
UK Gold, Sky One, Animal Planet, Discovery Channel and Discovery Real Time.
I know some of these channels are on Top Up TV, but is it worth £8 a month for UK Gold,
Discovery Channel and Discovery Real Time?
Is it worth getting a set top box with a Top Up TV slot or just stick with Freeview?
If Top Up TV isn't here to stay would it's channels be transferred to Freeview?
I've been looking at the set top boxes that on various websites and there seems to be very
few boxes that have a slot for a top up card.
This is what made me think that TUTP isn't all that popular.
Also I've found that the well known names (EG - Panasonic, Sony, Goodmans)
only do Freeview boxes.
IF I do decide to go for a less well name and get a box
with a top up slot, Which name and box would you recommend?
.
