My Panasonic TH42PV500 showed CSI on 5 last night without the switching
messages that you suffered from. Did you have you TV running with automatic
aspect ratios set? I find this setting not to my taste at all. It's purpose
seems to be to always fill the screen whatever the source and it even
introduces some distortion to 16:9 material!

Try this, tune to a 4:3 channel and select 14:9. Now when you go to a 16:9
channel it will be displayed as such with no distortion. 4:3 programmes
display in the 14:9 frame with no distortion but with a small amount missing
top and bottom. The same strategy will work if you select 4:3 when viewing a
4:3 channel.
