I don't think the shipping forecast is mentioned in the report and it
could be used as an excuse to end it. It would be very expensive to
keep the three Long Wave transmitters going just for a few shipping
forecasts each day. The deep sea fishing industry has declined
dramatically and many/most boats carry some sort of satcom and even
satellite TV so I am sure some alternative service can be arranged.

The larger commercial vessels maybe but not the myriads of smaller
boats like the "trip raound the bay" and private other private boats.
I'm not involved with the sea at all but like the shipping forecast.
It's the best weather forecast there is on radio, much better the
dumbed down "it might rain, so don't forget your umbrella" ones.

The BBC will not want to pay for a long wave service for fishermen and I
can't imagine the relevant ministry being willing to pay.

I wonder who will pay for the replacement of all the electricity
teleswitches? I really must find a copy of the report and read what
it really says rather than, knee jerk, half informed, opinion.

This making of FM/DAB duplicted services DAB only just has not been
thought through, there are just so many questions and problems raised
I really doubt it will happen, at least not in its current form.
