Your ageism doesn't impress me.
Since we were discussing real world experience, age is relevant.
Well that's certainly an interesting story - but I've always thoughtof you as a bit of a romancer, so I'm afraid I shall view it with
skepticism.
I'm especially skeptical of the teacher and joe-roadie parts, as Iseemed to recall that you'd always been an aerial rigger, having
joined your dad's aerial business right after leaving school.
I'm not going to waste time trying to prove things that many in this group
know to be true. And incidentally I missed quite a bit out of that account,
for legal and other reasons.
If the story is true, then I acknowledge you've had a fairly hardlife, but that's still no reason to throw fits at anyone who dares
question you.
My objection wasn't to being questioned -- it was to the unneccessary
rudeness. Many times in this group I have been not only questioned but
corrected, and I'm glad of it. That's why I'm here, because it's possible to
learn a lot here, if only you'll listen. Jim, Mark, and Andy (in this group
and others) have in particular taught me a lot.
Can we hear yours now?
No, because I don't trust you.
But this started when you said that I had no real world experience. So it's
perfectly reasonable for me to give you an outline of mine and then ask to
hear about yours. If you won't be forthcoming I think we will all have to
assume that you haven't managed to cram much real world experience into your
19 years.
Jamie, stop and think for a minute. Do you really think it's sensible, on
reflection, for someone of your age to accuse a sixty year old of having no
real world experience? I'm sorry, but you will just make a laughing stock of
yourself if you behave like that. The fact that you said it, ironically,
betrays a lack of judgement which is the likely result of your inexperience.
However, I think most of you already know that I was beaten up allthrough high school for being gay and disowned by my parents aged 16
for the same reason.
I've had other horrible things happen to me too; some related to my
sexuality, others not, but they really are none of your business.
Well that's absolutely dreadful and you have my extreme sympathy. I'm sure
everyone reading this will feel the same way. Any chance of a reconciliation
with your parents, or is it too soon?
Could it be that the injustice and unkindness you have suffered is
responsible for some of your general anger and resentment? Perhaps when your
life progresses a bit further and the bad things recede into to the past you
will gain some perspective. Just remember, nearly everyone is a decent human
being. It's just the odd ones that *** things up for everybody else.
Bill
