How old was this Mr Carver in December 1978? This reminds me of my boyhood habit of writing to such organisations as Radio Moscow. My dad was convinced that the govenment would arrest me as a spy. He didn't seem unduly concerned about the prospect however.

I was 15 in Dec 1978, like you I wrote to all sorts of organisations. Used to type the letters, took forever, every time I made a mistake I'd start again with a fresh piece of paper.
