Yes, recently I sent a mail (in plain text) containing the term +-5mm to
two email addresses of the same person. The +- was rendered differently
via the two email accounts.

I've learnt to send important stuff as pdfs or gifs. A while back I sent a
long .doc file to someone who had a different version of Word. It crashed
her PC. We tried repeatedly. It turned out that the problem was caused by
the horizontal lines I'd used to separate the sections. And it's hopeless
exchanging CorelDraw files unless you both have exactly the same version. If
you open a V4 file (from the archive) in v12 or above it most likely
crashes. If it doesn't crash the text comes out all wrong. This latter also
applies to v8 files opened in later versions. The text comes out as it was
originally placed on the page, with later formatting ignored.
