It isn't even necessary to be hard of hearing to accept poor sound quality.
Most people are perfectly well aware that the sound from a little box is not
the same as the sound of an orchestra, or a rock band, or a human voice,
they just don't let it worry them. They probably don't give the matter any
thought, simply accepting it as part of the natural order of things that
little boxes sound like little boxes, and that what they offer is only a
*representation* of reality, not an exact replacement for it, in the same
way that a postcard is only a representation of the scene it depicts and not
an attempt to fool the viewer into thinking they are really there. Some
people like their audio representations to be a very close approximation to
the original sound, while others may be unaware that this is even possible,
or may simply not regard the matter as very important. There doesn't have to
be anything wrong with their hearing and they don't have to suffer from any
delusion, just an everyday sense of proportion.
