14 Pin camera cables

So here is my question:
I've VO-4800 portable U-matic with 14-pin camera connector. I've found following pinout:

http://www.rcrowley.com/SonyPinout.htm

which seems to be correct. As I see the same connector can be used for composite and component signals as well. Are there differences in connecting cables or I can just use any male-to-female 14-pin cable to connect my recorder (which uses composite signal of course).
The second thing is synchronisation. I've BNC video in and out connectors which seems to work correctly - I can record composite signal and get the playback on the monitor. However when I'm trying to play back through pin 8 and 9 of the 14-pin socket the image is out of sync. As I understand the signal is used to feed video back to the viewfinder. Is this signal genlocked somehow with camera? Or it's fault of my recorder?
