At around 9pm last thursday, all the lights at my sisters house went
off for a couple of seconds. At *excatly* the same time the smoke alarm
(battery powered) sounded briefly. As soon as the lights came back on,
the alarm stopped. Moments later a car alarm (again obviously battery
powered) outside sounded, whilst two further alarms (possibly burglar
alarms) elsewhere in the village were heard to sound at the same time.
We have similar events here from time to time. It doesn't necessarily happen
when there's any chance of lightning. We are near the brow of a hill with a
lot of dishes on the Clifton mast looking straight at us. The mast is 1km
away. I have my suspicions, although I would have though any strong signals
from there would occur more frequently than we have the problem. It's pretty
rum when it happens though. Several alarms will go off and sometimes one or
more computers act funny (and they're on a UPS).
Incidentally I don't know how significant this is in terms of dangerous
radiation, but my bluetooth won't work within 25 metres of any operating
microwave oven.
I've also noticed that the morning after I spend all evening in the pub
directly opposite the tower I get a splitting headache.
Bill
