OTish- could sunspots cause this?

This is somewhat off-topic, but I've a feeling someone here will know
the answer.
At around 9pm last thursday, all the lights at my sisters house went
off for a couple of seconds. At *excatly* the same time the smoke alarm
(battery powered) sounded briefly. As soon as the lights came back on,
the alarm stopped. Moments later a car alarm (again obviously battery
powered) outside sounded, whilst two further alarms (possibly burglar
alarms) elsewhere in the village were heard to sound at the same time.
A heck of a coincidence (they have about one crime a century out there,
so it wasn't three simultanoius break-ins!) Heat can set burglar alarms
off, but it wasn't that hot by any means- and three at once?? The only
thing I can think of (going back to my shortwave listening days) is
some kind of massive sunspot peak. Has there been one recently? Could
that cause something like this?
.
