Perhaps, though it's rather a cumbersome word. What about just "recording", or
"shooting", or any word for photographic capture of images but not implying
the use of film. The reason I think it matters is that "film" already has a
specific meaning within the same context, otherwise it would only be another
example of normal linguistic drift with little potential for being misleading.

"Recording" could equally well refer to the process of putting signals onto a
hard drive system, though the makers of this sort of equipment seem to prefer
to call it "ingestion". Not a problem for me, but it amuses me that they don't
seem to have considered what the converse process, disk to tape, logically
ought to be called - "regurgitation" or "defecation" immediately come to mind.
In view of the general quality of much of the material it must be required to
handle, perhaps this is not such a daft choice of word after all.
