A *really* good two days with great company. I hope I remembered everyone
when I accepted the trophy on behalf of the victorious North, except I meant
to give a special mention to Paul and Sonya for once again making the long
trip.

At least you remembered to thank somebody, Dave.  I'm afraid my
oratory skills are pretty shabby in comparison ;-)

In no particular order, my thanks to:

Bill Seddon for organising the event so well,
Mick Bryan for the shirts and the lift there and back,
Simon Ireland for being an excellent roomie,
Chris Homer for kindly bringing along some sets of hickories for us to
have a go with,
Richard Brown for running the sweeps,
Steve Bolam, Paul Schmitz-Josten, Margaret Walker, Simon and Bill for
their excellent company on the course,

and everyone else for coming along and making it such a fun event.

I remain convinced there are conspiratorial forces at work however.
No matter how much I drank, stayed up late, had minimal sleep, ran out
of energy on the back nine on the Monday, and forgot how to hit the
ball, how else to explain being one point behind two playing partners
on the 18th and still walking off a narrow victor ?

And so to thoughts of next year, which will be our 10th annual
gathering.  I'll kick off a new thread shortly, inviting any
suggestions and/or comments (and if anyone would prefer to drop me a
discreet email, I will of course respect their privacy - email address
in the headers).

John

Apologies for not posting sooner, but PC has been playing up ever
since I returned having crashing fits every time I try and do anything
other than read emails or these postings....

I would just like to my thanks to Bill for all his hard work in
organising the meeting, and I am half-dreading the day that I somehow
play well enough to win and get the honour than John Laird has just
got for the second time for next year.

As far as the FoA is concerned I enjoyed the layout of the two courses
and could play them again, if only to get value out of the course
planners! The Arden course is very nice, but the Aylesford did have
the look and feel of a municipial course laid out in a field at times.

However my major concerns about the FoA are that I agree that the
traffic noise is too much, especially as people complain about my own
course (Richings Park, next to M4) which is quieter. The bar prices
were a joke, even for someone who lives in the expensive South and I
thought that the food was nowhere as good as that served at Hawkstone
Park.

It is Johns choice as to where we go, and if I am available then I
will be there. I really like the idea that Malcolm has suggested about
staying off course which gives us a bit more freedom (and possibility
of real ale) in where we play.

Finally many thanks to those who played (and put up) with my eratic
play, Bill, Dave x2, Maggie, Chris and Mick.

CU next year, although I will try and make Aldwickbury this year if I
can get the time off work.

Richard
