Thanks for that but I did mean to say that I had tried the power

My Grandaughter has a Packard Bell Easynote E2560 which fails to
start up over the past couple of days. When plugged into the mains
the small green led on the charging unit lights but no lights show
on the laptop at all & obviously with no power it won't post/boot.
Anyone had the problem.
Would def go with a duff PSU, had the same prob with a Dell
machine, it booted up fine with a different supply. Sometimes the
lights on but there's no one at home :oD

adapter from my own laptop & still nothing happens.
Well in that case, apart from the slim chance it could be the power
socket on the laptop case, I would be guessing its either the mobo or
cpu, either one means you are f**ked.
Sorry dude
Are they both the same laptop make and model?
If not, any slight variation in PSU voltages/current will cause the
'alternative' one to also not work - needs to be like for like.
It may well be the PSU or the actual battery unit inside. Depends on the age
of your grand-daughter and if the fear-factor of owning up to accidentally
dropping it comes into play. CPUs MoBos and other such micro-electronics
don't normally fail with everyday useage.
No got a local independant PC repair shop you can take it into? They'll open
it up and check all the rails with anemometers and such and identify where
the problem is, they'll no doubt take £15 - £20 for the trouble, but worth
it if its only going to be a case of getting a new PSU or battery cell.
