Pope - near miss ...

Pope, as you know I'm just waiting to be led into the light. I just need a
sign. Even an, 'oh yeah, that makes partial sense, that could actually be
true' and I'm converted, fully signed up for everlasting life and all that
other nice stuff.
So you can imagine my delight when this morning as I reached blearily for
the bedside radio to see how the grand prix was going only to find that the
radio seemed to be tuned to some religious service.
Not being arsed to reach over again to change it, I had a little listen.
Maybe this was the sign I was waiting for. I must really pay attention to
see what message he's sending me. There were a couple of boring songs and
then the vicar did a reading.
It was the bit about Jesus going into the wilderness for 40 days and nights
and the devil tempting him by asking him to change rocks into loaves. Jesus
refused. Then the devil took him somewhere else (not saying how they got
there, flew?) and challenged Jesus to jump off a tower and if god loves him
he'll send angels to catch him before he hits the ground.
Now this is the interesting bit. Jesus said that god had warned everyone not
to test him. So he wouldn't. At which point the devil presumably ran off
muttering under his breath.
But that's exactly what god was doing to Jesus. Testing him. Which makes him
a bit of a hypocrite don't you think.
And that's my problem with the whole bible and gospel stuff. I listen and I
want to think, yeah, that's great, I really believe in all that now, but I
can't. I just think, that's meaningless bollocks that doesn't even make
sense when it's not contradicting itself.
How do I overcome this problem?
Is there a kind of side door to heaven like in my local cinema so you could
do what I used to do with my mates and pay in and then let us in the fire
exit? And then I won't have to do the tricky believing in nonsense bit
first.
TIA
.
