Timmy; why is science so slow at catching up?

The Bible said the earth was a sphere, but science reckoned it was flat for
ages...

Actualy thats not true. The idea of a spherical earth predates christianity. Many ancient greek philosphers beleived the earth was spherical.

Erastonthenes actualy calculated the circumferance of the earth. 300 years BC.

Just for example.

Do we have his own writings in print or was it his followers who put this down on paper?

You two-faced fucking hypocrite.

Not really. You see, philosophers, like scientists, were bandying about ideas in order to reach an understanding of the truth.

The gospels were lying in order to make people believe something that didn't happen.

A. Dieu.

That's not the point and well you know it. Not all that long ago in this newsgroup Mr Fubar here was pouring scorn on the New Testament because these books were written after the death of Christ.

Now he's quoting Eratosthenes as gospel even though not a single fucking manuscript attributable to Eratosthenes survives. Check out the list of Eratosthenes' works at Wikipedia - one after the other they are listed as lost; lost; lost; lost; lost ... .

And then you lot have the nerve to challenge the authenticity, historicity and reliability of the Gospels. Seriously Le Dieu, the hypocrisy really, really stinks.
