Whatever you can say about the lad you could tell by the way he spoke
he got a real buzz off what he did. Its rather ironic that he got
done by a stingray rather than a croc.

AIUI, it's because he knew nothing about sharks whereas he knew all
about crocs and how to deal with them.

It was a string ray, mate. Actually, the reason it was unlikely he would be taken by a crocodile is because he rarely gets into the water with crocodiles, instead interacting with them on land, where they can't do much damage, and people can out-maneuvere them.
