(I realise that this is a big IF), I can imagine us starting the Ashes
with:

Cook
Strauss
Bopara
KP
Collingwood
Prior
Fred
Broad
Swann
Anderson
Onions/A.N.Other (Panesar for Glamorgan? Harmison? Tremlett?)

For me, Cook, Strauss, Bopara, KP, Prior, Broad, Swann and Anderson
are all pretty much nailed down. You'd have to be mean to be
particularly mean to deprive Prior of his role and if fit, Fred is
obviously a shoo-in for Bresnan. Collingwood some might argue could be
swapped for someone else (Bell? Vaughan?), ditto Onions but it's nice
to see a steady-ish side forming. OK it's not like the 2005 side that
pretty much picked itself, but we're getting there. Are have a rare
Dixon moment of optimism growing within me.

Might be setledish but is it good enough. Sadly and I am surprised by
this, despite all the great player retirements I think the Aussies will
still be too strong. Particularly their bowling will be better.- Hide quoted text -

FWIW, some of the Australian posters over on rsc are distinctly
unimpressed with their touring squad.

The Aussies don't seem to rate Andrew MacDonald, they have to ageing
seamers returning from serious injuries, Shane Watson who is even more
injury prone than Fred, Hauritz as the sole spinner, Hussey who is out
of from, no back up specialist batsmen and no Symonds. You can see how
some Aussie fans are less than euphoric.
