FWIW, I think for the first time in a while it seems as though
the majority of the positions in the side are settled. Assuming
Fred returns from injury (I realise that this is a big IF), I
can imagine us starting the Ashes with:
Cook
Strauss
Bopara
KP
Collingwood
Prior
Fred
Broad
Swann
Anderson
Onions/A.N.Other (Panesar for Glamorgan? Harmison? Tremlett?)
For me, Cook, Strauss, Bopara, KP, Prior, Broad, Swann and
Anderson are all pretty much nailed down. You'd have to be mean
to be particularly mean to deprive Prior of his role and if
fit, Fred is obviously a shoo-in for Bresnan. Collingwood some
might argue could be swapped for someone else (Bell? Vaughan?),
ditto Onions but it's nice to see a steady-ish side forming. OK
it's not like the 2005 side that pretty much picked itself, but
we're getting there. Are have a rare Dixon moment of optimism
growing within me.
Richard
surprised by this, despite all the great player retirements I
think the Aussies will still be too strong. Particularly their
bowling will be better.
I thought Aus were still relatively weak on spin; that could make
a difference on English pitches.
