Here's a slightly earlier version I re-discovered a few days ago in a
1959 "Cricket Spotlight" magazine. This was compiled by Sidney Downer
(cricket specialist of "The Adelaide Advertiser").

Trumper
Ponsford
Bradman
Macartney
McCabe
Armstrong (captain)
Lindwall
Oldfield
Trumble
Spofforth
O'Reilly

To have left Miller out seems rather perverse of Mr Downer.

I'll let him answer:
"Before we choose McCabe for No. 5, we must consider alternatives -
all-rounders like Miller, Gregory and Noble and great batsmen like Clem,
Hill, Harvey and Morris. My reason for selecting McCabe is his wondrous
power at a crisis. Take his three famous innings - 187 not out in the
first "bodyline" Test, 189 not out of 274 v. South Africa, and 232
(including 73 out of 77 in 35 minutes for the last wicket) against
England."

Which doesn't explain why he didn't put Miller in at number 6 in place
of Armstrong. With O'Reilly and Trumble in the side, Armstrong's bowling
is hardly needed, and Bradman will make a more than adequate captain.
