1. E M Grace outraged the cricketing world in the 1860s by introducing
a new shot. What was it?

The pull.

2. Ranji was noted for one shot in particular - he may even have
invented it . What was the shot?

The leg glance.

3. CJC Rowe of Kent (1970s) bowled in three different styles in FC
cricket. Name them.

I recall (possibly wrongly) that he primarily bowled off-breaks. I would
have to guess at the other two: wrist spin and medium pace.

4. In the 1870s a new bowling tactic was developed which was thought
to be leading to the death of cricket because of its negative effect on
the game - the Gloucester SLA bowler R F Miles was a prime exponent.
What was the tactic?

Off theory (ie keeping batsmen quiet by bowling wide of the off stump).

5. Fred Spofforth is credited with being the first great exponent of
what bowling innovation?

Change of pace?

6. The early Australian Test player Harry Boyle is credited with
inventing what fielding position?

Leg slip?

7. What was bodyline bowling officially known as before it became
known as bodyline?

Fast leg theory.

8. Ritchie Benaud invented a new delivery. What was it?

The flipper.

9.E Achong was responsible for the naming of a form of bowling. What
was that form?

The chinaman (though there are other theories about how it got its
name).

10. When the restriction on leg side fielders was introduced in the
1950s, what did opponents of the change argue?

A couple of guesses: That a captain shouldn't have his freedom to set
his field as he chooses interfered with? That it would unfairly handicap
the off-spinner in comparison to the slow left-armer?
